children in sanctuary during VBS

Ministries

Our children are an active, vital part of our church community. We recognize this fact by promoting a loving Christian environment and involving our children in Christian activities and opportunities.

Our Children's Church Worship Service, Joyful Jamboree, has been a great success! This year different elements of worship have been added including the Gloria Patri, Affirmation of Faith and Books of the New Testament.  Children also learn about Bible characters through stories, videos and puppets. In addition, an emphasis is placed on helping children to become comfortable with private and corporate prayer. Offerings collected in Joyful Jamboree will go to Operation Christmas Child. Children remain with their parents in the Sanctuary until dismissed for Joyful Jamboree and can be picked up in the Chapel afterwards.

Children's Moment is a time that is set aside at the 9:00 and 11:00 services for the children to come to the altar and hear a short scripture lesson that is specifically told to them. We have adult volunteers who rotate each Sunday to share a short (3-5 minutes) story, scripture and prayer after which the children are dismissed for Children's Church.

Children from K-5th grade can participate in the 9:00 or 11:00 service as acolytes or Bible bearers. The younger children start out as Bible bearers and are responsible for carrying the big Bible to the pulpit. Acolytes are responsible for lighting the altar candles at the beginning of the service, dedication of the offering and extinguishing the altar candles at the end of the service each Sunday on a rotating schedule.

Children's Sunday School is offered from 10am to 10:50am for children 3 years and up. 3-4 year olds attend classes on the 1st floor of the Sunday school building - just follow the signs. The preschool children are learning from a series called "Rockaby Toddlers and Twos" which includes a Bible story, related craft, music and play time. Donna Wallace and Catherine Warren are teaching that class. K-5th grade children attend classes on the 2nd floor - just follow the signs. Elementary children are studying a curriculum based on John 14:1-"Believe in God, believe also in me" or "Live B.I.G." This DVD-based Sunday school resource is designed to excite and enrich children's spiritual lives. The children meet characters who model B.I.G. behavior, see travel segments featuring B.I.G. ministries by everyday B.I.G. people, listen to cool music and learn to live out their belief in God in their everyday lives. K-1st grade is taught by Eloise Green and Kevin Henderson. 2nd-3rd grade is taught by Kelly Johnson and Angela Hendrix and 4th-5th grade is taught by Amanda Forristal and Michael Van Der Heyden. 2 year old children, taken to the Pollywog Pray and Play Room (nursery), will be provided with age appropriate activities, story time and music as well.

Nursery Services are available for children age 3 and under during worship services, adult Sunday School and Wednesday night activities on the 1st floor of the Sunday school building in the Pollywog Pray and Play Room. Upon request services can also be provided for other church-related events. Karen Campbell is our Nursery Coordinator. To schedule nursery services please contact us.
