Ministries
Our children are an active, vital part of our church community. We recognize this fact by promoting a loving Christian environment and involving our children in Christian activities and opportunities.
Children's Church is offered in conjunction with Sunday morning worship services for children age 3 through 2nd grade. Children come with their families for the beginning of the service (about 20 minutes) and then leave with the adult leader. Parents pick up their children at the classroom on the first floor of the Sunday school building. Children are divided into two groups: 3 years through K and 1st through 2nd grade. On the first Sunday of the month (Communion Sunday) the children are brought back to the sanctuary to participate in communion, if the parents desire. They are then taken back to Children's Church for the remaining part of the service. Children's Church offers a biblically based lesson that is age appropriate for the children along with a related scripture and an activity or craft. A snack is also offered if there is time.
Children's Moment is a time that is set aside at the 9:00 and 11:00 services for the children to come to the altar and hear a short scripture lesson that is specifically told to them. We have adult volunteers who rotate each Sunday to share a short (3-5 minutes) story, scripture and prayer after which the children are dismissed for Children's Church.
Children from 3rd grade through 5th grade can participate in the 9:00 or 11:00 service as a Bible bearer or acolyte. Children in the 3rd grade start out as Bible bearers. They will carry the big Bible to the pulpit. Children from 4th grade and up can become acolytes. They are responsible for lighting the altar candles at the beginning of the service, dedication of the offering and extinguishing the altar candles at the end of the service each Sunday on a rotating schedule.
Children's Sunday School is held from 10am to 10:50am. From September through May, 3-4 year olds and K-1st grade classes are held downstairs in the Sunday school building in the Day School hall. 2nd-3rd and 4th-5th grade classes are held upstairs in the Sunday school building in the youth hall. In June, July and August, 3-4 year olds attend classes on the 1st floor of the Sunday school building, 2nd door on the right; K-2nd grade attend classes on the 1st floor, last door on the left; grades 3-5 attend classes on the 2nd floor, 4th door on the left; middle school (6-8) attend classes on the 2nd floor, last door on the right; high school (9-12) attend classes on the 2nd floor, last door on the left.
Nursery Services are available for children age 3 and under during worship services, adult Sunday School and Wednesday night activities on the 1st floor of the Sunday school building. Upon request services can also be provided for other church-related events. To schedule nursery services contact Cyndi in the church office.
Children's Choir is held on Wednesday evenings from 6:15 to 6:45pm for Kindergarten through 5th grade children. The Music Minister comes to the Gill Fellowship Hall to get the children and takes them into the Sanctuary for practice. The children learn beginning musical skills and are encouraged to sing like children with purity and lightness of sound. Acoustic instruments are used for accompaniment to further develop the musical ears of the children for these are the church musicians of tomorrow. Children are given opportunities to sing at many Sunday services and at special events during the year. Contact us if you have any questions.
Children's Chimers meet at 5:00pm on Wednesdays on the 2nd floor of the Sunday school building (look for the yellow door). Children from 3rd to 5th grade can participate. Sally Reeves is in charge of the class.
The WNL TeamKid program is available on Wednesday night for children from 3 years old through 5th grade and runs concurrently with our adult program after the evening meal. The program starts at 6:30 for the 3 year through 1st grade group and ends at 7:15. The program for the 2nd through 5th grade group starts at 6:45 and ends at 7:15 (music from 6:15-6:45 with our Music Minister in the sanctuary.) Parents can pickup their children in the classrooms of the Sunday school building after the adult program is finished. This program is similar to the Children's Church program in that it is a biblically based program, also age appropriate, with a scripture and an activity or craft if there is time.
